Tiel needs friend!?

Hello Everyone, I have a Tiel named Snoopy hes 8 months old…Im at work all day…and i would like him to have a friend…I know it has to be a female, because males will fight..but must it be a tiel? I DO NOT WANT BABIES..?! Can i put another type of bird in there with him? has anyone ever done this? anne
Anne, I have five male cockatiels and they do not fight. They love each other dearly. I wouldn’t suggest getting another bird just to keep the first bird company if you would like bird number one to remain bonded to you. If you are concerned about loneliness try leaving the TV or radio on during the day. This will provide your bird with audio and visual stimulus during the day. Also a bunch of toys will help out. Make sure you rotate them weekly so your little guy does not get bored. Just a couple of ideas. Jodie and the all male flock (five male ‘tiels and one male umbie ‘too) Yes, I feel out numbered, but I would not have it any other way!!

I have several male tiels that live together in harmony. Much depends on the Snoopy’s ‘tude. At only 8 months, he would probably make friends with another young bird pretty easily. On the other hand, even if you are gone all day, if Snoopy has toys to amuse himself with when you’re gone and you give him consistent quality time when you are at home, even if it’s only a hour in the evening and a half hour in the morning, he should be just fine. But consistency is very important. He will come to expect your time together.
