2 shockers tonight…….

Question:

I went to see Saving Private Ryan tonight. A sad….sad….sad movie. The beginning shocked the hell out of me cause it was so realistic. They did an excellent job with that movie. Then I came home and had a message on my answering machine that my 2nd cousins son died. He was only 7. He had cancer at 2 years of age right up until his death. It was expected he would die but was a shocker cause the message was left on the machine. His father (my 2nd cousin) went as far as Lourdes of France to see if it would help him….but I guess the Lord said "NO". As a father, he tried everything for his son. The son even started to go blind towards the end. I am depressed about the whole thing but it was expected. The doctor who was treating the boy said he had 3 months to live and pretty much hit the nail on the head. My best to all, Steve P.

Steve,     I am sorry to hear this.  And even though it wasn’t an unexpected death, it is still tough to deal with. Hang in there. Victor

I had a similar black evening 20yrs ago Steve when after accompanying my much loved brother to psy hospital after he was forcibly committed.First I spent the whole day trying to find him in a local country estate while choking down the fears and tears and then trying to reassure him about things I had no idea about myself. That night I took my girlfriend to the cinema to try to normalise things after the crisis.I was late so I called a taxi and we rushed into Dublin and on arrival in style I found I had left my money behind and had to suffer the ignominy of having this gorgeous blonde subsidise the night out (which she did gracefully). To cap off a bleak day the film was "The Ruling Class"  with Peter O’Toole in his darkest most morose role ever. Little did I know that 10yrs later my own depression would become clinical and I’d need hospitalisation. But I’m still here and so is my brud married with kids and living in the US and doing ok too thank God…whoever you are. If theres a heaven the little one is there Steve..if not he’s at peace Brian – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

In a previous article, ("Sunfire1") says: I went to see Saving Private Ryan tonight. A sad….sad….sad movie. The beginning shocked the hell out of me cause it was so realistic. They did an excellent job with that movie.

Yeah, it is a good film.  My mom says she won’t go see it, because she had a brother and a cousin who landed on Omaha beach, her cousin on D-Day, her brother on D-Day+1.  She says that, even tho they both survived, it would be too much to see what they really went through. I tole her it’s probably jsut as well, because it really is realistic. Then I came home and had a message on my answering machine that my 2nd cousins son died.

So sorry, Steve.  He was only 7. He had cancer at 2 years of age right up until his death. It was expected he would die but was a shocker cause the message was left on the machine. Being expected doesn’t really help, especially if it’s a child.  It’s so sad when a child dies, espeically if his life was spent in illness.  The doctor who was treating the boy said he had 3 months to live and pretty much hit the nail on the head.

I had several parishioners whose deaths from cancer the doctors predicted almost to the day, sometimes to the day exactly.  Pity they can’t treat cancer as well as they can predict its course.   I really am sorry, and will keep you and your family in my prayers. A 7 year old, that really is sad. {{{{Steve}}}} lisa My best to all, Steve P.
