I have finally got a web site up and partly running!!!

Question:

<post + email> Hi Duncan! I’ve visited your site. Excellent, both design and content. Actually, you’ve managed to make it navigable without using frames. (I am using IE, don’t have any idea of how it looks with NS). You may wish to add some midi files, but this is subjective (and may slowen a bit the download). Your artwork is very very fine, I’ve browsed all three sections. Oil paintings are my favorites by now. What is the method you use to get the JPG version? Congratulations and best regards, Raffaele (King) In article <5Tx25.760$3I6.115…@news3.cableinet.net>,   "artist@toon" <d.andi…@blueyonder.co.uk> wrote: <snipped everything but the link> www.toon2001.fsnet.co.uk Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Thanks…… it’s always nice to know I’m doing something right!!! <grin> > Actually, you’ve managed to make it navigable without > using frames. Yeah……. I am trying my best to avoid using frames and stick to a design which is simple and fast enough to download…….. I will also be adding a section in the future promoting local bands, so I will be adding either MP3 or Midi files to the site……. which ever works out to be easier!!!! > Your artwork is very very fine, I’ve browsed all > three sections. Oil paintings are my favorites by > now. What is the method you use to get the JPG

version? The JPG’s are all scanned from photographs or direct from the drawings themselfs…… depending on the size of them……I am having a few problems with Netsape at the monet but I hope to have those resolved before long…….. a few design changes I think!!! Thanks again for visiting the site and hopefully within the next few days, I should have quite a bit more up there to have a look at….. pictures of Newcastle etc!!! Duncan

Oil paints are funny things to work with…… you can get excellent detail without worrying about making a mistake……. you just let it dry and ppaint over it!!! You should give it a go sometime…… you only need to start off with a few colours and a piece of canvas board….. all of which are fairly cheap……… if you like it, you can then go for the more expensive stuff. Me, I find it really relaxing when I’m painting or drawing….. tend to do this when I have the TV on or a bit of music painting. I tend to get wraped up in it and forget about any other troubles you may have!! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> > That was something I was thinking about…… But before I get to that > > stage…….. The HTML bit isn’t so bad, it’s the JAVA that does me in!!! You are right in one sense that people are born with a talent……. but also….. people can learn to paint to a high degree without being born with the natural ability to paint………. art is all mathamatics…. the old masters…. the truly great painters had not only the mathamatical skills, they also had the ability to see the smallest changes in detail. Take a close look at someones face…. it’s not just pinky peachy in colour…… it also has blues, greens and purples in it to……. once you start painting, it is hard not to look at things in detail……… you then realise how much you haven’t seen before and how complicated and beautiful the simplest things are!! > What I find in loneliness or have found by talking to others in greater > depth.. is that loneliness strikes those who are gifted, or of a higher > intellegence.. look at the higher IQ and the people who have felt that they > never fit in so to say.. quite a few as so very intellegent and don’t know > how to understand why other’s can’t see the total picture concept.. Before I start a painting, I generally have a vision in my head to how I want the finished painting to be………..when I go into one of those thought modes….. people end up checking my pulse or think I have totally lost it!!! It’s like walking into a room, being able to see that room with different coloured walls, furniture and carpet and know whether your decorating ideas will work or not before putting any paint on the walls!!!It can be annoying as well though…… seeing a room in your house, knowing what it could look like but not having the money or time to do it!!! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> > I am glade you like them anyway…….. I’m hoping to get some of the photographs of Newcastle & Gateshead up and onto the website in the next couple of days!!! I’ll have to have a look around to see if I have got any more copies of my work to put up as well!!! I have one painting which is nearly finished, so hopefully that will not be to long in getting on the site……. and yes I will keep you informed of any developments with the website!!!! and thank you again for your words of encouragement…… it is most appreciated!!! There are many places that can give you this knowledge on the Web. I can provide a few links should you need however your talent is in the creation of the painting.. I would fixate on using that talent to get you ahead and focus on your success in this area.. it will come a time that everyone is taught Java and HTML.. it is a very basic concept actually – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> > do you do people, like family portraits.. for I know many that would love > an > > oil painting of their families.. or pencil drawings.. but then.. your > talent > > is more advanced than this isn’t it.. > No….. no one is ever to adavanced in art……there is always something > new you can learn…….. life is just one big learning curve………. As in all of life.. it’s a learning and growing and evolving each and everyday.. it is good you do not feel over qualified, and I wonder if Picasso thought he was good or done learning but in a sense you learn from your paintings for you are capturing the essence of their movements, the soul behind their eyes and the sleekness of their fur or the wave of their hair and the mood on their faces.. Thank you…………….. a bit of a pause when trying to think of something to say……….. receiving compliments tends to leave me lost for words……… painting drawing is just something I have always been able to do…… Goerdie & The Bairn was the first proper painting I done…….. before them I had never used oil paints……… I had mainly used pencil before then…… if I remember right I painted that in 1991…… I think!!! > and the pencils and charcoals.. amazing.. what do you charge.. are you going > to sell your talent via the web

That was something I was thinking about…… But before I get to that stage…….. I would like to get to grips with HTML and JAVA a bit more…….. at the moment I really only know the basics…… I have some good ideas for website design but not the ability to put them into action yet……. a bit more swatting up to be done yet me thinks!!! > do you do people, like family portraits.. for I know many that would love an > oil painting of their families.. or pencil drawings.. but then.. your talent > is more advanced than this isn’t it..

No….. no one is ever to adavanced in art……there is always something new you can learn…….. life is just one big learning curve………. If I started to think I couldn’t get better I would pack it in………….. as far as professional artists go….. i am just a beginner…….most good experienced professional artists are in their mid 40’s onwards…….. until then….. I believe you are just an apprentice learning the basics of your trade. Portraits are okay…..but baby’s do get to me after awhile……it’s not that I have a dislike to kids…….. it’s just there isn’t much to draw……. they are all very much alike……… I guess that’s why I like wildlife illustration……. there’s just so many different creatures out there to paint, it would be impossible to get bored!!!! > Have you been selling these, how are you selling them, and are you doing > well, they really are very good you know

Yeah, I sell quite a few, normally, I like to work on commisions…….. then I know I have a buyer for the painting or drawing….. the owl painting was sold in a shop in the Metrocentre beside where I live……. they sold it to a couple down London apparently…….. that was some time back that…… I always remember that one being sold as it was the first…. at first it always feels strange when you let a painting go to someone…….I don’t know why…… I don’t normally keep any of my work myself…….. I always find mistakes with them and that tends to do my head in!!!! so I only have about 3 drawing’s and one painting on the walls in my place………… and that’s only because there would be too many spaces left on the wall!!!! I am glade you like them anyway…….. I’m hoping to keep adding to them as time goes on…… now that I have the basics of a website built….. I can keep adding to it………. got a stack of pictures of Newcastle and Gateshead which is not far away from where I live to go on yet.. Thanks again though for your kind words.
