Actually, the smart ones know how to GET RID of the baggage they don’t need, and only pack what’s necessary. I’m learning from my travels that how you pack your bag is a metaphor for how you live your life. Most travelers carry way, way, way too much stuff, and that includes myself. You see them walking into airport terminals with 50kg suitcase bags, duffel bags, and then they load their carry-on bags to the max. Going to the beach on Thailand you see all these people with huge backpacks for 1-2 week trips and you think, OK, how much of that stuff is *really* necessary? I just came out of spending 24 hours in a Thai police station. Long story here, and I didn’t do anything bad! Actually, some lowlife pick-pocketed my wallet on the bus, and I had no cash on me. So I went to the tourist police and they took me in ‘custody’ while I waited for money to be sent through Western Union. I made good friends with the officers and we all had a good laugh. Tried to tip them off at the end, but they wouldn’t accept my payment. Anyways, while sitting around in the police station I looked at my huge bag with all sorts of baggage in it. I had been lugging this heavy shit around for almost a month and it finally dawned on me. "I’ve got time on my hands, why not get rid of the baggage I don’t need and make the pack lighter? So I emptied everything out and repacked. It turns out that more than half went into the garbage. Such is life. We carry around all this clutter. There’s physical clutter in blackholes known as car garages. There’s emotional clutter. There’s even relational clutter, meaningless relationships that go nowhere and serve no purpose. But you can get rid of the clutter you don’t need, and in turn, carry a much more manageable load. Steve

Some folks have clutter stored in storage and they are payign for it, some havent been to their storage in years. People get attached to their things and cant get rid of them. That reminds me I need to donate clothes that I dont need. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->There’s emotional >clutter. Or hide them, or make them appear insignificant or make them look like they’re *your* problem etc. – Michaela

This is the post of the hour. It’s our baggage and it’s by lugging it around with us in our heads that we give it life. – Michaela
