> Empathy is a curse

Question:

Stranger, this is not a blessing, it is a curse.

Morgan "No it is a blessing once you learn to use it wisely… The trick is not to own the pain … you can see it and touch it but do not invite it in if it is painful" — "When your personal boundaries are sufficiently violated, your mind will create its own artificial ones" Mark Conlon

*** post for free via your newsreader at post.newsfeeds.com *** When I was young I learned that everyone is a potential enemy and the only way to survive is to know thy enemy before they do.  In my quest to survive and seek out potential enemies I developed the skill of empathy.  A skill that has grown to the level it now can go beyond the five senses sometimes and I know things which should be impossible.  Yet, I still sense them. There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy  - Hamlet, Act 1, Scene 5 And what I describe is one of them.  But such a gift has a high price and that is madness – the curse of knowing. Do you know that at least half of what people say is a lie?  Many times those people don’t even know they are lying themselves and believe those lies to be the truth?  Yet over time I see the lies before they do. Do you know that most people communicate through half-truths?  Yet over time I start to learn what the truth is. Do you know that most people think communication is the act of talking and forget to listen?  Yet over time I *do* listen and hear far more than people want me to know. Do you know that people will sacrifice people dear to them because of their pride and arrogance?  Yet over time I hear the wounded child "crying" alone. Do you know that people will put on the greatest of bravados so you will not see their fears?  Yet over time I hear their doubts and fears. Do you know that people will project their fears and hopes onto other people oblivious that the object of their desire or scorn is just another human being?  Yet over time I see the events unfold before my eyes. Do you know that people will run away when you get too close to their "soul"?  They will make a multitude of reasons why except for the obvious – they are scared.  Yet over time I learn that too. Can you feel the pain in a dog’s midnight yell? Can you feel emotions of someone’s forgotten story? Can you see the age of someone’s memory in their eyes? Can you see the loneliness in someone’s eyes as people ignore their inaudible voice? Can you feel the pain of a hurt child in grown adults? Can you hear the inhuman lust in someone’s voice? Can you feel the pain of someone’s lost love? I can, and no matter what is said.  No matter how you rationalize life.  No matter how you dismiss my observations.  No matter what "condition" you may give me.  I can still see things most people either ignore completely or are just ignorant of. Stranger, this is not a blessing, it is a curse. And people wonder why I have a fascination with this mechanical beast. Simple, it has no feelings. I am TheForsaken. I am the one you say you see, but is never seen. I am the one you say you hear, but is never heard. I am the one you say you love, but is never loved. I am TheForsaken
