Question:
hi, Although not born around Boston, I was bred there. At one time, I’ll have to admit, I found the Boston accent to lack the charm of many other regional accents. That was until I left that area. Now I enjoy it immensely when I hear it in its true form. I have heard very few actors successfully imitate this accent accurately, – Robin Williams’ in *Goodwill Hunting* was, I thought, an exaggerated parody of that form of speech. In that movie, though, some of the actors playing the kid’s friends spoke precisely in the way that brings a pleasing memory to my ear. Best, -BD – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – My family came to visit about a month ago. They had to stop and ask directions here. My grandfather spent the whole visit talking about the guy that told them to "Go down thaa and take a uey". Being born, raised and still living in metro Boston, you mean, I have to go paaak the caaa in Haavaad Squaa! Ain’t that the truth? Though I am ALMOST considered a Florida "cracker" (been here since I was six) I was born in Massachusetts and I still feel that New England blood. Now excuse me while I go park the CAA. Well it isn’t completely relegated to just Boston. It’s a northerner accent. I’m in NH….New Hampshaa to all you southerners. When my b/f first moved his, some friends bought him a Wizard of Oz tie…said it was to help him to remember to loose his "Oz".

I gotta tell ya, if I had the money… a job waiting… and the NERVE…I would seriously consider moving back East (I have family on the Cape). But what a change it would be! Jan. 2nd of this year I was standing outside at Logan waiting to check my bags. I LOVE the cold weather. But the wind was blowing and about the time my nose froze solid I was having second thoughts. I sure keep looking for the snow though every time I go up. And it keeps waiting to fall AFTER I’ve left. But I WON’T give up! P.S. Anyone from Woodstock, Vermont/? My grandparents once had a creamery there. Damn! If they hadn’t moved I could be part of a famous ice cream family right now! And giving tours! And discovering new and exciting flavors! Geeze, that new Secretary position I start Mon. just doesn’t sound fun any more. JA

Smilin’ again ….. But, Char – you’re in Concord, or thereabouts, aren’t you? Isn’t that a part of Lowell, Mass? (VBG!) :-)
