"Rhythm is a Dancer"

Question:

Hi,    I guess we can’t quite let this thread go away yet.  But I second Jim’s post on the "rap" version because the import single I bought used must be the same as Jim’s.  The 7" and 12" have the same outro’s.  The 7" clocks in at 3 minutes and 41 seconds.    I also managed to find on MP3, the version of that Jim mentions (with the fading chorus).  This version clocks in around 3:49.  I wonder where this particular version came from?  I find it strange that the longer versions of RIAD never had it but with this version, it would seem to indicate a longer cut was made but perhaps never released??? The "rap" version with the awful "serious as cancer" line is on an import CD single I have, which is more like an extended edit, as it has the same outro as the 12" mix, as opposed to the same version they played on the radio (with the rap) that had a fading chorus (you could hear where they edited back into the chorus before the fade).  Also, in the intro, the version they played on the radio hacked the "la la la" part in the beginning by about a half, whereas on the edit I have on this single has the full female scat.  Weird. Hi! Thanks for the info!  I found a used single copy of Rhythm is a Dancer online…I ordered it hoping it would have the original rap…..cross my fingers! Though I did manage to scrounge up a short version of the song with the original rap on MP3.  Though you mentioned the lyrics on the rap are a little stupid, it just goes with the song so much better than the ones with rap or the newer rapping. Don

You may be disappointed. As was stated earlier, the only version I know of which has Turbo B’s rap is the album version (about 3:40 long)

Jt has a promo 12" WITH rap, but I believe that was on an obscure early promo…Jim, you chiming in on this one? —Da Klondike Fiver —"are you doing being or being doing?"

Response:

Hi guys,     Well, I got the used single today and the 7" version has the original RAP on it!  :)  It’s the import single (I think from Germany) that has the 7" with the Rap, the 12" w/o the rap and the long Purple Hazed Mix.       So it’s possible to get it….you just have to dig for it a bit.  :) Thanks for all the help, Don |_/(_)| |(_||(_|  |_(/_(/_     http://www.geocities.com/smcoach41 Apple II user since 1983     "Our Hearts: Some people come into our lives and quickly go.  Some stay awhile and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never the same." – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Jt has a promo 12" WITH rap, but I believe that was on an obscure early promo…Jim, you chiming in on this one? —Da Klondike Fiver —"are you doing being or being doing?"

the *only* CD I have that has the original rapping by Durron is the album "The Madman’s Return (and The Madman’s Return v3.0:  where was 2.0???). The mixes that I have removed the rap…remember at the time, a lot of radio stations would not play anything with a rap in it (sidenote:  I have a really cool edit of Real McCoy’s "Runaway" that samples "When I Hear Music", in place of the rap, because of this). The really awful thing about Durron’s rap is that it features one of the most ambiguously hideous/stupid lyrics ever:  "I’m serious as cancer when I say that rhythm is a dancer".  This was, unfortunately topped a couple of years later by Redman, on Mary J Blige’s "Be Happy" remix, rapping that he "spreads love like the AIDS virus".  Rap was *not* happening in these songs hehehe —Da Klondike Fiver —"are you doing being or being doing?"

Let me take that back,     The lyrics I posted are probably Einstein’s.  I am guessing I have this version.  Which CD’s have the original rapping by Turbo B besides the singles? A far away light in the futuristic place we might be, It’s a tiny world just big enough to support the kingdom of one knowledgeable, throw away the loneliness and head back down, I’m going too fast, I’m going too fast Thanks again, Donald |_/(_)| |(_||(_|  |_(/_(/_     http://www.geocities.com/smcoach41 Apple II user since 1983     "Our Hearts: Some people come into our lives and quickly go.  Some stay awhile and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never the same." isn’t Turbo B actually Durron Butler? in that case, it’s him rapping on ALL the versions.  as far as any dispute goes, I only heard rumor that he was released from contract after some incident at a gay club where he took offense to being hit on (this is probably PURE RUMOR for some queen’s drama fix, so dno’t buy it until you read it from a reputable source, which I haven’t). Einstein raps on the "1998" version, but that’s as far as I’d know anyone else has rapped on it… —Da Klondike Fiver —"are you doing being or being doing?"

Hey folks,     Here’s a question that maybe old times can answer:  When SNAP released Rhythm is a Dancer a decade ago, wasn’t Turbo B rapping on the song?  I could have sworn he was.  However, in all the copies I have he isn’t (it’s the other guy).  I remember hearing somewhere that Turbo B’s rapping was removed after some dispute…..so if that’s true did any recorded material sneak out?  I would love to hear that version again!
