Stess & Immodium & Help !!

Question:

I have had IBS for about 10 years now. I can not seem to go anywhere without the fear of having to go to a restroom. It can not simply be stress because I have many attcks while simply working in the yard. I turn down trips with my friends who assume I am simply ignoring them. But how do you explain this situation?? It is the worse thing to go through. It is ruining my life. My entire schedule revolves around this. I take immodium until I am afraid it will do me harm. Please Help !!!

Response:

Do not confuse the effects of years of mild stress (bad job, loneliness, house problems, money problems, ETC) on your system with the kind of cataclysmic stress (death of a loved one, sudden loss of job, an assault, ETC) brought on by a temporary bad situation. One will make even a "normal" person loose control. The other uses the colon as a receptacle for excess energy. And the receptacle does get full, at different times for different people. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->I have had IBS for about 10 years now. Response:

Tell people the truth.  You would be amazed at how many people either have or know someone who has IBS.  Although it is not a subject that is really pleasant to discuss, you are really putting yourself under additional stress by avoiding it.  As far as the Immodium is concerned, discuss that with your doctor. Perhaps, there is some other med you can take on a regular basis that will slow down the peristalsis. Regards
