What book should every runner have

_The Runner’s Repair Manual_ Don’t remember the author.
Dr. Murray F. Weisenfeld. The book *THINK FAST — Mental Toughness Training for Runners* by Joe Henderson is interesting and informative. Some good photos of those runners comprising Henderson’s "Toughness Hall of Fame" (by no means complete, as Henderson admits): Abebe Bikila, Ron Clarke, Derek Clayton, Buddy Edelen, Jack Foster, Miki Gorman, Doris Brown Heritage, Tatyana Kazankina, Kip Keino, Ingrid Kristiansen, Billy Mills, Rosa Mota, Steve Prefontaine, Jim Ryun, Alberto Salazar, Joan Benoit Samuelson, Frank Shorter, Mary Decker Slaney, Francie Larrieu Smith, Peter Snell, Lase Viren, Grete Waitz, Priscilla Welch, Emil Zatopek. (Feel free to note any omissions.

"The Runner’s Repair Manual" was written by Dr. Murray F. Weisenfeld with Barbara Burr, St. Martin’s Press, New York, ISBN 0-312-69596-9. It’s like a Chilton’s Manual for runners. Don’t leave home without it.

_The Runner’s Repair Manual_ Don’t remember the author. The book lists a large number of common ailments, what causes them, and how to treat them. Yes, the biggest treatment method is, of course, RICE. The big deal is that the book can help you figure out why you got hurt in the first place so that you can prevent yourself from getting hurt again after you’ve healed. Let me echo what has been said about ONCE A RUNNER. The writing style is certainly never going to win any awards, but the writer has the emotion of being a runner dead on! It is a book that I ran trhoguh with emotion; i was a decent runner in college and i recognized every emotion. it will be difficult to find; it was printed by some local press in North Carolina (I think). Cypress or some such thing. Incidently, about two years ago RUNNERS WORLD ran a "test" where they allowed the reader to see how much of a runner they really were. The bonus question was knowing the name of the main character in once a runner. The author was a 10 time all-American at Flordia State (I
Once a Runner is published by Cedarwinds Press. The author, John Parker, ran for Florida and held several school records. Much of the book is a thinly veiled description of the FLorida Track Club scene in the early seventies. Once sees that Bruce Denton is based on Jack Batchelor, and the famous clock-cleaner Frank Shorter is based on Frank Shorter. The character John Walton isn’t too tough to pin down, either. Quentin Cassidy is generally thought to be based on the author himself, though endowed with better leg speed. I haven’t been able to find Barry Brown in the book. The training descriptions are extremely accurate, both in emotion and in fact (reflecting the general influence of Jack Batchelor on the FTC, especially Shorter). Among the other notable features of the book is its description of money and violations of the amateur rules of the time. Parker’s book was one of the first to discuss suhc matters, though in a "fictional" setting. Charles Yeomans who also yearns for just one more 10 miler with the boys (and girls)

Another book is HEROES AND SPARROWS, by an author I cannot remember and which i have in a library of about 3,000 books (which means I can not find it) I’ll post it–the author is from New Zealand, very good book. There is always the first short story of the collection THE LONELINESS OF THE LONG DISTANCE RUNNER!, if I can be obvious.
